Expressions that take singular verbs
Some expressions take singular verbs even though they contain a plural noun. Chips, etc., and examples are eggs, bacon, cheese and biscuits, fish
Eggs and bacon for breakfast was served.
Where's the cheese and biscuits?
Fish and chips in England is very popular.
Names that have no plural form
Not all names have a plural: for example, furniture, grain, dust, news,Advice, information, baggage, bread, anger and landscapes usually have only a single.
The landscape here is good. (NOT The landscapes here are good.)
I lost my mobile. (NOT ... my mobile.)
We received no information. (NOT ... no message)
He told his mother the news. (NOT on this article ...)
There is no bread in this shop. Or are there bread in the store. (There is no bread in this store.)
Please excuse me for the trouble Iis caused. (There are ... for the trouble I caused.)
I learned a new poem. (NOT ... a new gasket)
A plural, the name of a single subject
If a group of words with a plural of a single theme, you need a verb in the singular.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is my favorite novel.
The Crusades is a book that comes in two volumes.
The memory of the war is worth reading.
Robert Louis Stevenson's books are alwaysexciting.
collective nouns
collective nouns of the singular verb when speaking of the group as a whole. Take a plural verb when talking about people within the group.
Compare:
The team is in the field.
The team is changing.
The class is a light.
The class is very mixed.
His family lives in this house.
His family live in different parts of Sydney.
The jury in the courtroom.
The jurystill discuss the case.
Pants and Shorts
Pants means underwear for the upper leg. Pants means outer garment for the legs, extending from waist to ankle.
Students must wear white pants. (Pants not white ...)
Theater, and drama
A theater is a building that has played in the will, not the game itself. Drama is rare today, in the sense that foreign students should be used, it must be said that an averagePlay whether amateur or professional has acted.
We have seen a lot. (We have not seen a game).
We want to play. (Not like us to participate in the drama)
Man and a Gentleman
Gentleman is a difficult word to use correctly in conversational English. Use the term, when the character of a person are connected.

Using a grown man to describe the male sex.

Lady and Mrs.
The woman is the normal word for a female adult to call. It 's very nice. "She's a Lady" means that she is a woman of good birth, breeding and taste.
I saw two women. (I have not seen two women)
Dress
The word dress is usually used to refer to clothing for women.
He wore a new dress. (Do not wear a new dress)
But note that it says "a man in evening dress" or "EveningDress. "
Reports
The English language uses a relatively loose terms of relations to express. The aunt is the sister of the father or mother. His uncle is the brother of the father or mother. Cousin means that each child of an aunt or uncle.
He's my cousin. (NOT 'my brother, cousin)
