With so many people outside of work and almost all of us to watch our finances, good value family meals even more important. Here are some recipes that my grandmother's meals that are light, cheap but delicious. These recipes have to be a hit with the whole family and save money on your food budget. Biscuit Hamburger Bake is fast, easy, cheap and meat, vegetables, bread and milk in a court. Spoon bread is an old recipe from Tennessee for aType of corn bread baked in a bread pan. Pink flannel hash used tuna, potatoes, eggs, etc. for a quick, inexpensive meal. So take heart, and give these recipes to try to help you save money on your trip to the grocery store.
HAMBURGERS BISCUIT BAKE
This recipe is a community in the south of the old cookbook Indiana, where I was born and raised.
1 pound ground beef
1 / 2 cup chopped onion
1 can of condensed vegetable soup
1 / 2 tablespoon oregano
A pinch of pepper
1 can refrigerated biscuits
1 / 2 cup sour cream
1 / 2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large skillet, cook ground beef with onion until meat is browned and onion is soft, drain them well to remove fat. Stir in the can of soup, oregano, and pepper heat bubble. The mixture in a 2-liter pot, butter. with cookies. Top Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Spread sour cream over the> Biscuits then top with cheese. Return to oven and bake for 10 minutes.
SPOON BREAD
This is an old recipe Tennessee hills.
2 cups white cornmeal
2 1 / 2 cups boiling water
1 1 / 2 tablespoons melted butter
1 1 / 2 teaspoon salt
2 egg yolks, beaten
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1 / 2 cups buttermilk
2 egg whites, beaten
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Add the cornmeal slowly into boiling water. Let stand for 3 minutes. Butter to the mixture of corn flour.Mix salt, egg yolks, baking powder and buttermilk. Fold the egg and then in a greased pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
PINK FLANNEL HASH
This ancient recipe was a clipping I found in a box of recipes from my late mother. I have no idea where they were clipping.
1 / 3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup chopped onion (1 large)
2 cups finely chopped red bell pepper
1 / 2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
2 cups frozen Southern-style fried potatoes IdahoPotatoes
1 can (6 1/2-7 oz) tuna, drained and flaked
4 eggs
In a large skillet melt butter, sauté onions and peppers until tender crisp. Stir in Tabasco sauce and potatoes. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until potatoes are soft and golden (about 15 minutes). Stir in tuna. Make four wells in potato mixture, break an egg into each well. Cover and set are 3 or 4 minutes or until the eggs. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Serves 4.
